Barack Obama Campaign Timeline
This section will present highlights from Barack Obama campaign trail in a chronological order in hope to form a Barack Obama Campaign Timeline.
October 30, 2008
The next 6 days
are going to be the toughest we've seen, and I need your
support to reach as many voters as possible.
Donate $5 or more today to strengthen this movement for the
final push.
This campaign is in your hands.
Thank you for everything you're doing,
Barack
October 24, 2008
We can't afford
to spend the next four years wishing we had done more in the
final push of this campaign.
Your support -- by midnight tonight -- will decide how strong
our team is and how far we can extend our reach between now and
Election Day.
Please make a donation of $5 or more before the deadline.
Change never comes without a fight. And the status quo is not
going to go quietly.
The McCain campaign and the RNC have been stepping up their
hateful "robocalls" and attack mailings -- they're throwing the
kitchen sink of false, negative attacks.
The margins of victory in crucial battleground states will be
small. And your support today can make all the difference.
We can't risk coming up short. The stakes are just too high.
Your donation of $5 or more will have a bigger impact now than
at any other time:
https://donate.barackobama.com/finalfight
Thank you for everything you're doing,
Barack
October 24, 2008
We're facing an
urgent deadline at midnight tonight.
Final decisions about our ground operation will be based on the
financial resources we have on hand.
We're too close to the finish line to fall short, and we can't
afford to look back and wish that we had done more.
Make a donation of $10 or more to own a piece of this movement
before the final deadline.
You can also choose to receive an Obama-Biden T-shirt with a
donation of $30 or more:
https://donate.barackobama.com/deadlinetshirt
The race is tight, and we simply can't slow down.
We need to keep fighting right up until the end, and your
donation today will strengthen this campaign in the final push.
Thanks so much,
David

Right now, we
have one last chance to strengthen our field operation and
expand our reach even further.
This Friday, we're making the very last, hard decisions about
allocating our resources. And it will all come down to where we
stand financially on Thursday at midnight.
We need to make decisions about strengthening our efforts in
key battleground states -- and identify opportunities for
expansion.
You can decide where we fight -- and how strong our team will
be.
Please make a donation of $5 or more before the deadline.
I know it's been a long campaign. And I know you've been asked
to do a lot.
I hear you.
But right now, I'm asking you to remember what's at stake for
our country.
After 20 months of fighting to bring the change we need, we
cannot hold back now. We need to dig deep because what we do --
or don't do -- between now and Election Day will make all the
difference.
Please make a donation of $5 or more before the deadline to
expand the final map of battleground states and strengthen our
field operation:
https://donate.barackobama.com/finaldeadline
I'd like to fight for votes in every corner of the country. But
the reality is that we need to focus and redouble our efforts
for the final push.
Thank you for making sure this campaign has the resources to
compete in as many states as possible,
Barack

Did you know the second most common reason that people don't
vote is that they don't know how? The top reason: No one ever
asked them to.
There's no doubt about it -- the conversations you have with
friends, family, and voters across Minnesota will decide the
outcome of this election.
In the next two weeks, we're planning the largest get out the
vote (GOTV) operation in Minnesota history. But it'll only
happen if you're a part of it.
Watch this video explaining the importance of our GOTV
operation and sign up to become a part of this historic effort:
We have to make sure every voter hears Barack's message of
change and votes. What we do or don't do in the next two weeks
will decide the outcome of this race.
To meet our GOTV goals, we'll need to fill over 50,000
door-knocking shifts in the last four days, including 30,000 on
Election Day, November 4th, alone.
We can't risk waking up on November 5th to four more years of
the same failed policies and the same cynical politics.
Can you volunteer to get out the vote between now and Election
Day and help change the course of history?

I just recorded
a message for our donors about the latest fundraising numbers,
and I wanted you to see it too.
Supporters like you have been extremely generous with your time
and energy. Thank you.
It's not too late to own a piece of this campaign. In fact,
your support is needed more urgently now than ever before.

From: David Plouffe, BarackObama.com
Subject: BREAKING: Latest numbers
Friend --
A record 100,000 people rallied with Barack in St. Louis
yesterday, and another 75,000 in Kansas City last night. Back
in Chicago, we were tallying up our latest fundraising numbers.
Supporters like you have completely transformed how political
campaigns raise money, so I wanted you to be the first to know
how we did in September.
I recorded a short video to share the latest numbers:
When Barack entered this race, he put his faith in the power of
ordinary supporters like you coming together and building a
movement for change from the bottom up.
That's exactly how we got this far -- and you should feel proud
of all we have accomplished together.
But with just 16 days left in this election, we can't slow down
now. Please take a minute to watch the video and find out where
we stand:

My wife Jill is
an extraordinary woman.
Jill's passion has always been education, and even during the
campaign she's been teaching class during the week and joining
me on the trail on the weekends. But this week, she also found
some time to go to campaign headquarters and call voters in
crucial battleground states.
Jill has always had a great time talking to potential
supporters, and I'm sure her calls brought Barack and me a few
votes closer to victory.
But you live in a battleground state, which means you're in a
unique position to talk to swing voters face-to-face. Will you
reach out to potential supporters in your community by going
door-to-door?
Watch this
video of my wife reaching out to swing voters -- then get a
list of voters near you and start knocking on doors today.
With the conventions and the debates behind us, this election
is now in your hands.
Reaching out to swing voters is one of the most powerful ways
to make a difference right now.
No matter how many rallies Barack and I hold or speeches we
give, supporters like you talking to fellow voters one-on-one
is the way we're going to win this election.
Get your list of supporters today and knock on doors this
weekend:
http://my.barackobama.com/n2n
Thanks for everything you're doing,
Joe
P.S. -- Can't talk to voters this weekend?
Sign up to make calls for the campaign later this week.

Anyone who tells
you this election is already decided is dead wrong. Let's not
forget the 2000 election, when Al Gore was up by double digits
in October.
The surest way to lose a race is to slow down with the finish
line in sight.
We're taking no chances. We've planned the biggest get out the
vote operation in history, and we need to make sure that every
voter has their voice heard.
That's why we've set the goal of bringing in 100,000 new donors
by Friday at midnight.
If you step up and make your first donation today, it will be
matched by a previous donor.
Will you make a donation of $5 or more today and double
your impact?
This campaign has fought for every inch, and now is not the
time to take anything for granted.
To get out the vote, we need to knock on hundreds of thousands
of doors and make even more phone calls.
This campaign has built the largest field operation in history,
and we need to mobilize it in these remaining days to get every
single voter to the polls on Election Day.
Because that's what it comes down to -- counting every last
vote.
Make a matching donation today to make certain that when
everything is on the line, we are stronger than ever:
https://donate.barackobama.com/match
We've come too far to hold back now.
Thank you for everything you're doing,
Joe
October 16, 2008
I just finished
the last debate before the election.
Now the outcome of this campaign is up to you. I need your help
to get our message out -- and to get out the vote.
I wouldn't ask for your support if this campaign didn't
urgently need it.
Your donation of $5 or more today is essential to our
unprecedented get out the vote operation in these final days.
The most dangerous thing you can do right now is nothing. Your
support and hard work are exactly what we need between now and
Election Day.
While he didn't mention the middle class, John McCain chose to
repeat the false, negative attacks that make up 100% of his
advertising these days.
The truth is that his choices say more about his campaign than
they do about me.
But John McCain and his allies are not going to stop fighting
-- or attacking -- until the very end.
We're doing this a different way. Tonight I talked about the
real problems ordinary people face during this economic crisis
and concrete ways that I will create jobs, cut health care
costs, build a new energy policy, and get our economy moving.
But time is running out. Our strength and our success in these
last 20 days depends on you:
https://donate.barackobama.com/finaldebate
Thank you for all you do,
Barack
October 14, 2008
You need to see
some of the offensive attacks we're up against. I just recorded
a short video on my laptop about John McCain's negative ads.
In the remaining 21 days, we need to be ready to respond to
smears like these -- and worse.
We need to show that our supporters will fight back against the
McCain campaign's low road tactics. That's why our goal is to
bring 100,000 new donors into this movement before midnight on
Friday, October 17th.
That means in your state we need at least 1,000 new
donors to step up this week.
Now is the time to make your first donation. This is your last
opportunity to partner with a previous donor who will match
every dollar.
Your donation of $5 becomes $10, $25 becomes $50, and $50
becomes $100 when it's matched by a fellow supporter. Watch the
video and double your impact by making a matched donation
today.
John McCain and his allies want smears and lies to drive this
election.
That must be because the McCain campaign knows they don't have
good answers for the issues that matter to ordinary people in
this country -- like the economy, health care, and ending the
war in Iraq responsibly. And they've flatly stated that if they
talk about the economy, they will lose.
Instead, they keep coming up with new, outrageous attacks that
are even more offensive and baseless than the ones before.
The issues facing our country are too important to let our next
president be determined by petty political tactics.
Help reach the goal of 100,000 new donors this week. You can
provide the vital resources needed to fight back against these
attacks and show John McCain that there's a cost to his 100%
negative campaign.
Double your impact today with a matched donation. Make your
first donation to help bring the change we need on November
4th:
https://donate.barackobama.com/match
We've already seen the cost of eight years of failed policies.
With just 21 days left, we have to show John McCain the cost of
ignoring the real issues and focusing on false, negative
attacks.
Thanks,

In these final
three weeks, our opponents are signaling they will do whatever
they can to distract voters and distort the truth, so we need
to redouble our efforts.
The negative ads and smears seem to grow by the day. The most
effective way to respond is by reaching out to more people than
ever before with the truth -- the stakes in this election are
too high not to.
We need to grow this movement by 100,000 new donors before
Friday.
A previous donor has promised to match your donation to
encourage you to give for the first time. This is your last
opportunity to partner with a fellow supporter and make your
donation go twice as far.
Your donation of $5 will become $10, $25 becomes $50, and $50
becomes $100. Double your impact by making a matched donation
today.
Our first 100,000 donors gave this campaign the strength it
needed to become a movement.
Back then, few pundits or insiders thought we had a chance. But
we overcame steep odds. Those first 100,000 donors turned into
millions of people like you, all across this country, coming
together to work for change.
Now we need to come full circle. We have just one week to grow
this movement by 100,000 donors.
It won't be easy, but we've always grown this campaign when it
mattered most.
Will you step up and own a piece of this movement today? Make a
donation right now and your gift will be doubled by a previous
supporter:
https://donate.barackobama.com/match
We only have 22 days left. Help this campaign finish as strong
as we started. Make a matched donation today.
Thanks,
Barack

The smears and lies about Barack are becoming more frequent,
more outrageous, and more offensive.
While you and I know the truth, many undecided voters do not.
Right now, supporters like you who live in crucial battleground
states are in a special position to influence this election by
talking to undecided voters in your community. You can help by
making phone calls or knocking on doors to set the record
straight and win your state.
Get your list of potential supporters to contact. We'll give
you talking points you can use.
This election is coming down to the wire. Voters are making up
their minds, and in a number of states they are casting their
votes early. You can help make sure the attacks we're seeing
from the McCain campaign don't influence their decision at the
polls.
No experience is required -- you can do it all from
home. You'll join more than 200,000 supporters around the
country who are using our voter contact tool to great success.
Ask friends and family to join you. If more supporters like you
get involved, we can quickly reach the number of voters we need
to win this election.

John McCain
keeps asking this question at his rallies -- then he gives
answers that are shockingly false and negative.
That's why it's vital that you sign up to volunteer for at
least one day during the final days of this election. Voters
won't know the truth about Barack unless supporters like you
reach out to them.
I also wanted to share a video of personal moments from behind
the scenes at the Democratic National Convention in Denver, so
you can see Barack and Michelle as they are -- decent, warm,
and kind people with a loving family.
Watch the video and get to know the Obamas a little better.
Then sign up to volunteer on a crucial day before the Election:
Our opponents try to stir up doubt and fear by questioning who
Barack really is -- as if after more than a decade in public
office, more than 20 months on the campaign trail, dozens of
debates, two books written by him and dozens more about him,
people still don't have enough information to decide for
themselves who should lead our country.
Millions of Americans have gotten to know Barack Obama as an
American who's devoted his life to things bigger than himself
-- his community, his country, and ordinary citizens looking
for a voice.
Our challenge now is to do the same -- to devote these last
weeks to a cause bigger than ourselves.
These tough economic times make our cause more urgent and the
stakes even higher. Barack needs your help to win this election
and bring the change we need to Washington.
Can you give a day of your time during the last four days of
the election?
Watch the video, share it with others, and get involved:

The McCain
campaign is on the ropes, and sadly it's no surprise they're
responding with attacks and outright lies.
I've heard some pretty unspeakable things in the past few days
-- deeply offensive smears that we'll hear over and over again
until Election Day.
John McCain and Governor Palin are setting a new low in
presidential politics with their dishonorable campaign.
Barack and I are out there every day fighting back. But we need
your help.
Make a donation of $5 or more right now to show John
McCain and Governor Palin that when they attack us with lies
and smears, it literally makes our campaign stronger.
After last night's debate, it's clear why John McCain doesn't
want to talk about the issues facing ordinary Americans --
especially the economy, which his own advisers admit he can't
talk about without losing.
Barack won last night by offering clear plans to rebuild our
economy from the bottom up, lower healthcare costs, and end the
war in Iraq responsibly.
McCain tried to push more of the same disastrous Bush
administration policies -- more tax cuts for the wealthy and
giant corporations, deregulating the healthcare industry and
taxing employer-based healthcare plans, and continuing to spend
$10 billion a month in Iraq.
So what's left for the McCain campaign? Negative attacks and
lies.
And it's even worse from some of the well-funded outside groups
supporting McCain, whose sole purpose is tearing Barack down
with smears.
Instead of focusing on the issues that really matter, our
opponents are doing everything they can to encourage this toxic
atmosphere.
We cannot stand by and let them get away with it.
We need to increase the cost of these desperate tactics for
McCain's campaign. Please make a donation of $5 or more right
now:

Thanks for your support,

Can you give a couple of hours this weekend to help Barack
and DFLers for change win Minnesota?
Election Day, November 4th, is only a few weeks away and the
race is still incredibly close here.
We're counting on supporters like you to give a little bit of
time to make a big difference.
I recorded this short video to let you know where the race
stands and our strategy to win Minnesota, and what you can do
to help.
Watch the video to learn more about our plan for victory --
then sign up to become a part of it.
John McCain and the Republicans are making a strong push here
in Minnesota -- he's moved staff into the state, and is
spending a fortune to flood the airwaves with dishonest attacks
against Barack and the rest of the Democratic ticket.
We're fighting back and opening new offices all across the
state, bringing the total to 31.
But we need you to help us by spending an afternoon or evening
doing the kind of work that wins elections -- knocking on
doors, making phone calls, and reaching out to the people you
know.
Sign up now to volunteer this weekend and make a difference in
your community:

I thought the
differences between John McCain and me were pretty clear
tonight.
I will fight for the middle class every day, and -- once again
-- Senator McCain didn't mention the middle class a single time
during the debate.
If you agree that we need to cut taxes for 95% of working
families, reduce health care costs, and end the war in Iraq
responsibly, then I need your help right now.
And if you heard John McCain push more of the same discredited
policies, including tax cuts for the wealthy and giant
corporations, tax increases on health care, and continuing to
spend $10 billion a month in Iraq, then now is the time to act.
Four weeks from tonight, we'll know which of us will be the
next president.
The time to make a difference in this election is running out

I was in North
Carolina with Barack yesterday -- getting ready for tonight's
debate -- and I took a break to record a short strategy update
for you.
Yesterday, millions of Americans learned the details about John
McCain, his political patron Charles Keating, and their role in
the last major financial crisis and taxpayer-financed bailout
of our time.
The truth makes it even clearer why a senior McCain adviser
admitted to a reporter, "If we keep talking about the economic
crisis, we're going to lose."
But it's not enough to merely inform voters -- we've got to
turn them out to vote.
You live in a key battleground state where the race is
neck-and-neck, so you can make a huge difference right in your
own community.
Watch our latest strategy update video and consider
giving a day of your time to help turn out the vote in the
crucial four days leading up to the election:
While we're focused on persuading and turning out voters, John
McCain has given up talking about the issues that are central
to this election -- especially the economy. Instead, he's
running the most negative presidential campaign in modern
history.
In the past few days, we've seen the beginning of a major
offensive that McCain is about to launch, filled with
distortions, personal attacks, and flat-out lies about Barack.
But you can help fight back by getting involved at the
grassroots level -- knocking on doors, making phone calls, and
talking to undecided voters about what really matters in this
election.
Commit at least one day to make sure Barack gets the votes we
need to win:

October 6, 2008
A 13 minutes documentary about the Keating scandal and Senator McCain's role in it.
Over the
weekend, John McCain's top adviser announced their plan to stop
engaging in a debate over the economy and "turn the page" to
more direct, personal attacks on Barack Obama.
In the middle of the worst economic crisis since the Great
Depression, they want to change the subject from the central
question of this election. Perhaps because the policies McCain
supported these past eight years and wants to continue are
pretty hard to defend.
But it's not just McCain's role in the current crisis that
they're avoiding. The backward economic philosophy and culture
of corruption that helped create the current crisis are looking
more and more like the other major financial crisis of our
time.
During the savings and loan crisis of the late '80s and early
'90s, McCain's political favors and aggressive support for
deregulation put him at the center of the fall of Lincoln
Savings and Loan, one of the largest in the country. More than
23,000 investors lost their savings. Overall, the savings and
loan crisis required the federal government to bail out the
savings of hundreds of thousands of families and ultimately
cost American taxpayers $124 billion.
Sound familiar?
In that crisis, John McCain and his political patron, Charles
Keating, played central roles that ultimately landed Keating in
jail for fraud and McCain in front of the Senate Ethics
Committee. The McCain campaign has tried to avoid talking about
the scandal, but with so many parallels to the current crisis,
McCain's Keating history is relevant and voters deserve to know
the facts -- and see for themselves the pattern of poor
judgment by John McCain.
So at noon Eastern on Monday, October 6th, we're
releasing a 13-minute documentary about the scandal
called "Keating Economics: John McCain and the Making of a
Financial Crisis" -- it will be available at
KeatingEconomics.com, along with background information that
every voter should know.
Watch a preview right now and share it with your
friends.
The point of the film and the web site is that John McCain
still hasn't learned his lesson.
And this time, McCain's bankrupt economic philosophy has put
our economy at the brink of collapse and put millions of
Americans at risk of losing their homes.
Watch the video to see why John McCain's failed philosophy and
poor judgment is a recipe for deepening the crisis:
http://my.barackobama.com/keatingvideo
It's no wonder John McCain would rather spend the last month of
this election smearing Barack's character instead of talking
about the top priority issue for voters.
But if we work together, we can make sure the focus stays on
the economy -- and how to fix it.
Please forward this email to everyone you know.

For the past 20
months, I've traveled to every corner of the country -- hearing
from supporters about all the hard work they're doing to share
Barack's vision of change with their families, neighbors, and
friends.
It's easier than ever to reach out to folks in your community,
and to talk to them about the stakes in this election -- and
about how important it is that they make their voices heard on
Election Day.
The Obama campaign will provide you with a list of folks in
battleground states, and you can knock on doors or make phone
calls to talk about why this election is important, and why
every single vote matters.
Many of our supporters have already done this kind of voter
outreach. Here's what they're saying about the experience:
Richard in Platte City, MO, wrote:
"Rebecca and I were able to get a list of 25 voters less
than a mile from our home. It came complete with a script... We
all know that Obama will win this election one vote at a time."
Cheryl in Naples, FL, said:
"It's fantastic to be able to do this important work on
your own time and even in short bursts. It was so simple. I was
amazed."
Nothing has a more powerful impact on voters than hearing from
passionate supporters like you.
Click here to get your list of voters to canvass or
call in your community. Join Richard, Cheryl, and many more
supporters at this crucial time.
Election Day is just 30 days away, and early voting has already
started in eight states. A dozen more states will start voting
in the next two weeks.
Voters are making up their minds right now about who to support
in this election.
Will you talk to voters in your community about Barack and his
message of change?
Get a list of potential supporters in your community to
contact, and we'll walk you through what to do next:
http://my.barackobama.com/n2n
Thank you so much for your support of this campaign. We could
never have come this far without you. Now, let's work together
all the way through Election Day to bring the change our
country needs.

If you saw
tonight's debate, you saw Governor Sarah Palin give a spirited
defense of the same disastrous policies that have failed us for
the past eight years.
She couldn't identify a single area where she or John McCain
would change George W. Bush's economic or foreign policy
positions.
If you want something different, Barack and I need your help.
Make a donation of $5 or more right now to bring about
the change we need.
The change we need is fixing this broken economy from the
bottom up -- not tax breaks for the wealthy and huge
corporations that ship U.S. jobs overseas. We need to focus on
defeating al Qaeda and the Taliban and restoring America's
standing in the world -- not an unending commitment in Iraq.
Let's be clear: Governor Palin and Senator McCain are offering
nothing but more of the same failed Bush policies at home and
abroad, trying to disguise them in the rhetoric of change.
Americans need real solutions and real change.
We're in this together and there's a lot to do before Election
Day. Please make a donation of $5 or more right now to support
this campaign for change:
https://donate.barackobama.
This is the most important presidential election you'll be part
of in your life.
Thank you for all that you're doing.
Now let's get to work and change this country,
Joe
01/10/2008
Barack Obama: "But I stand before you tonight because all
across America something is stirring. What the nay-sayers don't
understand is that this election has never been about me. It's
been about you.
For eighteen long months, you have stood up, one by one, and
said enough to the politics of the past. You understand that in
this election, the greatest risk we can take is to try the same
old politics with the same old players and expect a different
result. You have shown what history teaches us - that at
defining moments like this one, the change we need doesn't come
from Washington. Change comes to Washington. Change happens
because the American people demand it - because they rise up
and insist on new ideas and new leadership, a new politics for
a new time.
America, we cannot turn back. Not with so much work to be done.
Not with so many children to educate and so many veterans to
care for. Not with an economy to fix and cities to rebuild and
farms to save. Not with so many families to protect. America -
we cannot turn back. We cannot walk alone at this moment in
this election. We must pledge once more to march into the
future. Let us keep that promise, the American promise. And in
the words of the Scripture hold firmly, without wavering, to
the hope that we confess. Thank you. God Bless you. And God
Bless the United States of America.
Here in Minnesota the race for the White House is incredibly
close. Polls show Barack and John McCain neck-and-neck, and
with just 33 days until Election Day we need to step up our
efforts.
The McCain campaign has shown time and again that they don't
care about reaching out to folks in Minnesota like you --
they're content to stick to the same tired, cynical politics of
smears and attack ads.
Minnesotans are smarter than that, and want to hear real
solutions for the challenges facing all of our families.
But too many people still don't know about Barack's plans to
cut taxes for 95% of working families, make health care
affordable, rebuild our economy from the bottom up, and bring a
responsible end to the war in Iraq.
That's why this weekend supporters all across Minnesota are
coming together to do the kind of work that wins elections --
knocking on doors and talking to undecided voters.
Sign up now to join a weekend canvass in your area and make a
difference in your community.
In this election, every single vote will matter -- and
Minnesota could decide this race.
In 2004, George W. Bush came within three percentage points of
winning our state.
But after eight years of failed Bush-McCain policies, Americans
need change now and we need your help.
To put Barack over the top here in Minnesota we need supporters
like you to step up in your communities, since you know them
better than anyone.
No experience is required to participate. All
you need is a hunger for change and a willingness to turn your
enthusiasm into action.

What we do -- or don't do -- in these next 30 days will
determine whether America gets the change we need or four more
years of the same.
Thanks for all that you do,

Did you see the debate on Friday night?
Barack won a solid victory, and the polls all show that his
message of change broke through to undecided voters.
In the next 48 hours, we have a great opportunity to grow this
movement for change. By reaching out to fellow voters right
now, and talking about the important differences we all saw on
Friday night, you can make a huge difference.
Check out our
exciting new Neighbor to Neighbor tool and reach out to people
in your community. We'll provide talking points and a list of
potential supporters you can call or canvass.
For millions of people, Friday's debate was the first time they
heard Barack's plans to cut taxes for 95% of middle class
families, bring a responsible end to the war in Iraq, make
health care affordable, and rebuild our economy from the bottom
up.
They also saw that John McCain -- after his erratic and
reckless response to the nation's financial crisis -- never
once mentioned how he planned to help struggling American
families. Throughout the entire debate, he didn't say the words
"middle class." Not once.
On Friday, the differences between Barack and John McCain could
not have been clearer.
Now we just need you to get the word out -- and nothing works
better than talking directly to your fellow voters.
Visit Neighbor to Neighbor now, and knock on doors or make
phone calls for Barack:

We put together
an ad today that captures Barack's victory in last night's
debate in 30 seconds.
Take a look and make a donation of $5 or more to get it
on the air for those who may have missed it:
After his erratic and reckless response to the economic crisis,
McCain needed a game-changer last night to restore his
campaign. He didn't even come close.
In a CBS News poll, uncommitted voters see Barack as the debate
winner. When it comes to the economy, 66% say Barack would make
the right decisions versus 42% for McCain.
The CNN poll results are also clear:
These are not the kind of reviews John McCain needed, but
they show that Barack is offering the change we need.
Barack broke through last night with voters who were watching
-- but we need to get the word out to the millions who didn't
tune in.

I just finished
my first debate with John McCain.
Millions of Americans finally got a chance to see us take on
the fundamental choice in this election -- the change we need
or more of the same.
I will provide tax cuts for the middle class, affordable health
care, and a new energy economy that creates millions of jobs.
John McCain wants to keep giving huge tax cuts to corporations,
and he offered no solutions for the challenges Americans are
facing in their daily lives.
I will end the war in Iraq responsibly, focus on defeating al
Qaeda and the Taliban, and restore America's standing in the
world after eight years of disastrous policies. John McCain
wants an unending commitment in Iraq and fails to recognize the
resurgent threat in Afghanistan.
Let's be clear: John McCain is offering nothing but more of the
same failed Bush policies at home and abroad that he has
supported more than 90% of the time in the Senate.
Americans need change now, and I need your help to get the word
out about this movement.
In the coming days, it's going to be up to you to organize
locally and reach the voters that are going to decide this
election.
Now's the time to make your voice heard.

neck-and-neck, so you can make a huge difference right in your
own community.
Will you sign up to volunteer on one of the four
crucial days leading up to Election Day?
Face-to-face contact with voters is the single most effective
way to deliver the votes we need to win.
It may be a tight race, but we have something John McCain
doesn't: a whole lot of passion and enthusiasm for change. I've
seen it in the towns and cities I've visited in every corner of
the country.
But it's up to each of us to make sure we turn this energy into
votes on November 4th.
Don't let this election be decided by political stunts or
distractions. Join your fellow supporters, roll up your
sleeves, and help carry this campaign to victory.
Every vote is important, and we're going after every single one
of them. Now is the time to step up. Give Barack a day leading
up to the election:

Supporters like you are the only reason we've come as far as we
have.
Now, we're counting on you to get us the rest of the way.

This morning
Barack called John McCain to suggest a joint statement of
principles that would help Congress resolve the immediate
financial crisis.
Then John McCain went on television and said he was suspending
his campaign and that Friday's presidential debate should be
postponed.
Barack spoke about the crisis and took questions from reporters
a few hours ago.
He also made it clear that -- with only 40 days left
for the American people to decide who will be responsible for
leading our economic future -- it is more important than ever
that the scheduled debate takes place.
Please take a minute to watch the video of Barack's press
conference and share it with your friends:
This is an important time, and we have to keep this campaign
focused on the crucial issues.

The era of greed
and irresponsibility on Wall Street and in Washington has
created a financial crisis as profound as any we have faced
since the Great Depression.
Congress and the President are debating a bailout of our
financial institutions with a price tag of $700 billion or more
in taxpayer dollars. We cannot underestimate our responsibility
in taking such an enormous step.
Whatever shape our recovery plan takes, it must be guided by
core principles of fairness, balance, and responsibility to one
another.
Please sign on to show your support for an economic recovery
plan based on the following:
• No Golden Parachutes -- Taxpayer dollars should not be used to reward the irresponsible Wall Street executives who helmed this disaster.
• Main Street, Not Just Wall Street -- Any bailout plan must include a payback strategy for taxpayers who are footing the bill and aid to innocent homeowners who are facing foreclosure.
• Bipartisan Oversight -- The staggering amount of taxpayer money involved demands a bipartisan board to ensure accountability and oversight.
Show your support and encourage your friends and family to
join you:

The failed economic policies and the same corrupt culture that
led us into this mess will not help get us out of it. We need
to get to work immediately on reforming the broken government
-- and the broken politics -- that allowed this crisis to
happen in the first place.
And we have to understand that a recovery package is just the
beginning. We have a plan that will guarantee our long-term
prosperity -- including tax cuts for 95 percent of families, an
economic stimulus package that creates millions of new jobs and
leads us towards energy independence, and health care that is
affordable to every American.
It won't be easy. The kind of change we're looking for never
is.
But if we work together and stand by these principles, we can
get through this crisis and emerge a stronger nation.
Thank you,
Barack

This Friday,
we'll reach another milestone in this campaign -- the first
debate of the general election, on September 26th at 9:00 p.m.
Eastern time.
Millions of Americans will tune in to watch Barack debate John
McCain about America's foreign policy and our role in the
world.
Barack will share his plan to bring the change we need -- to
restore our place in the world, ensure security at home and
abroad, and reestablish the United States as the world's
economic leader.
This is a great opportunity for you to learn more about the
issues. And it's also a great opportunity for you to share
Barack's message of change with your friends, family, and
neighbors by attending or hosting a Debate Watch Party.
Watch the debate with friends and supporters, and talk about
how you can get involved in this movement.
I recorded a brief message about these parties.
Please take a moment to watch the video and sign up to
attend or host a Debate Watch Party in your community.
Many Americans are still learning about Barack and this
movement for change.
They don't know about his plan to restore the middle class, cut
taxes for 95 percent of American families, provide health care
for every American, achieve energy independence, improve our
schools, and responsibly end the war in Iraq.
Many people also don't know that John McCain has voted with
George Bush more than 90 percent of the time -- including to
continue Bush's failed Iraq policies, not investigating the
government response to Katrina, not supporting children's
health care, not supporting college benefits for returning
veterans, and passing tax cuts for the rich at the expense of
the middle class.
This debate is a chance for Americans to hear directly from
Barack. And with just a few weeks left before Election Day,
it's more important than ever that we bring people together and
talk about the issues that matter in our communities.
I hope you'll watch my short message and sign up to attend or
even host a Debate Watch Party:

The economy hit
a new low this week, and in every part of the country, people
like you are feeling it.
The recent financial disasters -- from the collapse of Fannie
Mae and Freddie Mac to the historic drop in the stock market --
are not just a string of bad luck. They are the result of years
of bad decisions made in favor of big corporate special
interests instead of America's working families.
More than 600,000 Americans have lost their jobs since January.
Home foreclosures are skyrocketing, and home values are
plunging. Gas prices are at an all-time high, and we're still
spending more than $10 billion every month on a war in Iraq
that should never have been waged.
John McCain's campaign is doing everything it can to focus
attention on false personal attacks and distractions -- but
there's too much at stake for that kind of politics.
I need your help to get the conversation back on track.
I recorded a two-minute TV ad about our economy and my plan to
solve this crisis.
Please watch the ad and share it with everyone you know:
For eight years, Bush-McCain economic policies have favored
reckless deregulation and huge tax loopholes for big
corporations. Now, as these corporations crumble, American
taxpayers are facing costly bailouts.
More of the same failed ideas are not going to solve our
economic problems.
I'm calling for a $1,000 tax break for middle-class families --
not just because they need help dealing with the rising costs
of gas, food, and health care, but also because our economy
needs to be reinvigorated from the bottom up, not the top down.
I'm proposing a second stimulus package to save over one
million jobs and provide immediate relief to struggling
families.
And I'll end the "anything goes" culture on Wall Street with
real regulation. We can see clearly that our economy is
stronger when we protect investments and pensions, and avoid
devastating bankruptcies and bailouts.
This is no ordinary time, and it shouldn't be an ordinary
election. Help keep the discussion focused on the issues.
Please watch the video and share it with your friends today:

Thanks for helping to bring the change this country needs,
Barack
